Check Engine Light On? Don't Panic.
A lit check engine light can mean dozens of things — here's how to know when it's urgent.
The check engine light is one of the most anxiety-inducing things a driver can see. But it's not always a sign of catastrophe.
The light can be triggered by something as minor as a loose gas cap or as serious as a failing catalytic converter. The key difference is whether the light is steady or flashing.
A steady light means the issue is present but not immediately critical — you should get it checked soon but don't need to pull over. A flashing or blinking light means the engine is misfiring and you should reduce speed and get to a shop as soon as possible to avoid catalytic converter damage.
When you bring it to us, we'll plug in a scanner, pull the codes, and give you a clear explanation of what's happening and what it will cost to fix.
